        The two Balkan Wars. In , several Balkan nations, largely influenced by Russia, signed a series of military alliances. This led to the formation of the so-called Balkan League. "The War in Eastern Europe," by John Reed, with drawings by Boardman Robinson, is the author's account of his Balkan travels during World War I. Beneath a sketch of a Serb soldier at the book.

If you want to read a unbiased look into the Balkans' history, this book is for you. While concise, I thought that it was very well written and does a good job of summarizing the history of the region including Ottoman rule and how life was under such.
